River Ave. Blues makes a great point as to why Joba needs to be in the 5-man rotation and not the bullpen.
I thought they’d make this change once hughes got hurt and kenneday sent down, and I assume most people thought the same thing. I don’t see the use in monkeying around with rasner and whoever else, except that joba’s thrown only like 120 innings professionally (less than 100 as a starter) and they don’t want to rush him and risk an injury. They should have stretched him out in the spring and brought it another reliever besides latroy hawkins. But then again, they were relying on hughes and ian. Anyway, I know someone else who wants joba in the rotation: Hank Steinbrenner. His argument does not seem very informed though, as he says “You don’t have a guy with a 100 mph fastball and keep him in the bullpen. You just don’t do that.” I guess he’s right, you probably shouldn’t do that. Maybe Girardi’s being extra cautious cuz of what happened to the young marlins pitchers after he got through with them.
I forgot the rest of that quote. He says “You don’t have a guy with a 100 mph fastball and keep him in the bulpen. You just don’t do that. You’d have to be stupid to do that.” He called the manager stupid! (however indirectly, but still, HE CALLS THE MANAGER STUPID.) What a clown. He’s even less classier than George.
